Collins & Hall is a family-run joinery business based at Moll Springs Mill in Netherton, near Huddersfield. We design, make, finish and install bespoke timber windows and wooden doors for homes across Yorkshire and the surrounding region.

The business began in 2015, when joiner and cabinet maker Tom Collins explored working with Robert Hall, who already ran a uPVC window business. Together they planned to supply and fit bought-in timber windows. It soon became clear that the available products did not meet the standard Tom wanted and that timber windows required a very different approach from the uPVC work Robert knew. They decided not to continue together, and Tom chose instead to manufacture the windows himself in his existing joinery workshop.

Barry Collins joined during the early development of the business. He built the quoting, costing and administrative systems needed to turn Tom’s technical knowledge and craftsmanship into a sustainable window and door company. Today, Tom and Barry run Collins & Hall together, supported by the joiners, finishers and fitters involved in each project.

The people behind the work

Tom Collins — Managing Director

Tom leads the joinery and technical side of Collins & Hall. He visits properties, assesses the work, develops designs and oversees material, construction and product decisions. As Managing Director, he also has final oversight of the company and the work leaving the workshop.

Barry Collins — Administrative Manager

Barry manages the commercial and administrative side of the business. He prepares quotations from the information gathered for each project, manages accounts and purchasing, liaises with customers and maintains the systems used to track time, costs and progress.

Together, these roles connect the practical detail of the joinery with the planning and communication needed to carry a project through properly.

Made and finished in Netherton

Our work starts with raw timber, sheet material, glazing specifications, hardware and coatings. The joinery is manufactured by our team and normally spray-finished in our own workshop, giving us control of both construction and appearance.

We make work to order rather than offering a fixed catalogue. That may mean reproducing an original sash window, developing a new entrance door, creating several different items for a renovation or supplying new joinery throughout a large house.

Installation is carried out by our employees and trusted regular subcontract fitters working under our direction. Some of those subcontractors previously worked directly for Collins & Hall and continue to return for fitting work. This flexible arrangement gives us additional capacity while allowing us to retain close control of the finished job.

Materials and suppliers chosen for a reason

We have established relationships with Accoya, Teknos and Coastal Group. They are prominent in our work because their materials and products help us achieve the result we want—not because Collins & Hall is tied to a standard catalogue.

Accoya timber

Most Collins & Hall windows and doors are made from Accoya. Its stability, durability and resistance to rot make it particularly well suited to exposed external joinery. Other FSC-certified timbers can also be used where appropriate.

Teknos workshop finishing

Our standard painted finish is a primer followed by two top coats, applied in our own spray booth using Teknos coatings. Joinery can also be supplied raw, primed or part-finished when a project requires it. Different components can have different colours, and dual-colour internal and external finishes are available where specified.

Coastal hardware

Coastal Group is our principal hardware supplier. Its range covers many of the handles, hinges, locks and other components required for our windows and doors. We also use products from From The Anvil—many supplied through Coastal—and Mighton for sliding sash work. Where those ranges do not provide the right answer, we can source suitable hardware elsewhere.

Experience with listed buildings

We have been through the Listed Building Consent process many times for different customers and properties. Our involvement can begin with gathering information and discussing what the customer wants to achieve, then continue through drawings, supporting documents, submission and communication with the relevant officers.

This experience helps us understand where compromise may be needed and how to explain the proposed work clearly. We cannot guarantee that consent will be granted, but we can manage the process carefully and work towards the best practical solution for the customer and the building.
