Timber sliding sash windows

Vertical sliding sash windows are an important part of the character of many Georgian, Victorian and later properties. Their appearance depends on proportion and detail: the relationship between the two sashes, glazing-bar layout, horns, mouldings and frame sections all affect whether the finished window looks right.

We make wooden sash windows to suit the individual opening. Where original or earlier joinery remains, we can use it to guide the design rather than replacing it with a generic interpretation.

Traditional appearance with considered performance

Opening and balance arrangements are chosen for the design, with suitable specialist hardware sourced from suppliers including Mighton. Low-E double glazing is standard, and we can work with stained-glass specialists to clean, resize and encapsulate decorative glass where appropriate.

Most windows are made from Accoya and spray-finished with Teknos coatings in our workshop. Colour, hardware and fine detailing can be chosen to complement the property.

Listed Building Consent support

Sliding sash windows frequently form part of listed-building and conservation work. We can survey the existing windows, prepare drawings and supporting information, submit and manage a Listed Building Consent application, and communicate with the relevant officers throughout the process.
